1. Hypermobility : We went to see a specialist on Monday. The specialist is basically another set of eyes on Miss Mady. Some of you know, she isn't truly crawling (with stomach off the ground) and isn't walking yet and she's 13 1/2 months old. She's always been delayed on gross motor. The specialist took one look at her and knew what the problem was. She has hyper mobility which means all her joints are double jointed. We've always noticed that she's super flexible. I've found her several times putting her head down on the ground with her legs extended straight out. Her knees can hyper extend and she also does the splits to get from a sitting position to a crawling. It's pretty crazy to watch.
So...what does this mean? Really nothing. Except that we have a name and a little more understanding of why she's struggling with gross motor. We will have to get insoles in her shoes to support her feet and then if those don't help, it may mean braces on her ankles. At first I was little apprehensive about braces...think Forest Gump. But...the doctor assured me that they wouldn't be up her entire leg and she wouldn't necessarily have to wear them out of the house.
2. Good News Today I found out some good news from a friend. I can't say what it is and who it is but I'm so excited for that person. It made my day:-)
3. Basketball: Practice and games end today. It has gone really fast! On one hand, I'm excited because it's been a struggle making Mady take a nap at 1:00 when her natural nap time is 2:00. It will be nice to have a little more flexibility in the afternoons. Mady will definitely miss the attention she gets. Those girls just dote on her and let her play with their phones all day long (something Mommy doesn't let her do at home!). I will miss seeing the girls and getting out of the house. It was such a great situation at Hesston and I'm glad I got the chance to coach.
4. Hard: The only difficult thing this week was realizing how many people at church are pregnant and due when I was. It just is a constant reminder of our loss. It makes me want to be antisocial...but I know I can't hide from it.
And because I need to add a photo in this post, I'll show my little girl doing a great job standing! Our favorite thing to do is watch Lexi outside.
Ignore the gross glass. It has since been cleaned! |
she's going to be a super gymnast! :o)
